A Brief History Of The Paleo Diet

“The Paleo Diet” is commonly referred to as the caveman diet or the stone age diet. The idea is that if you ate like our ancestors did you would not face the basic health problems many face today such as heart disease, diabetes, low testosterone, lethargy and the list goes on. The paleo diet’s main principle is if it doesn’t swim, run, or fly, or isn’t green and grow in the ground, don’t eat it.

General Protocols Of Eating Paleo

Natural Foods: No more processed sugars sweets, pastas, noodles, breads. The paleo diet may only consists of foods that haven’t gone through any processing, if its packaged its probably processed.

Lean Proteins: The paleo diet insists that you eat more lean meats such as chicken, fish, beef, turkey and pork. It is debatable whether you can consume whey protein while eating paleo as it is processed milk.

Lots of Fruit & Veg: Now that most carb choices (bread, pasta, rice) are out of the question, you must make up the deficit by eating fruits for energy, to fuel your workouts. The vegetables will add fiber, curb you hunger and provide you with a vast array of minerals and vitamins, you won’t even need a multivitamin with all the vegetables you will be eating.

Healthy Fats: Healthy fats will make up about half of your total daily calories depending on how much protein you are eating. Healthy fats such as omega 3,6,9′s and polyunsaturated fats will improve joint health and are proven to decrease inflammation.
Saturated fats aren’t ruled out either, our ancestors main source of fats was animal fat and that they would instinctively hunt for fatter animals.
