DEAD FOR BODYBUILDING
Two months ago, I had a long discussion with Sweden based Ugandan Bodybuilder Stanley KIBIRIGE. We talked about his comeback in competition after several years off, the show he intended to set up in Uganda around March, his supplements company and his plans to spread his sales in Africa. Stan was full of ideas and ambitions. Early this month Stan, 24yo, had a heart attack. He vanished with his plans and dreams, abandonning weeping friends, family and beloved….
One week later an unknown Bodybuilder named ROJEH passed away in the remote city of Kisumu in Western KENYA. Alike Stan Rojeh was less than 30yo, alike Stan he had a heart attack, alike Stan he had plans and dreams, alike Stan he left weeping friends, family and beloved.
Dan Puckett 22yo Stanley Kibirige 24yo Andreas Munzer 30yo Robert Benavente 30yo Scott Klein 30yo Mohamed Benaziza 33yo Eric Otero 37yo Paul Demayo 38yo Shelley beattie 39yo Fannie barrios 41yo Charles Durr 44yo Ron Teufel 45yo Ray Mentzer 47yo Eduardo Kawak 47yo Derrick Whitsett 48yo Joe Meeko 48yo Mike Mentzer 49yo Sonny Schmidt 51yo Don Yougnblood 51yo Greg Deferro 53yo All where Freaky professional Bodybuilders all had dreams, family, friends and beloved…All are dead prematurely. HEART ATTACK and KIDNEY INSUFFICIENCY The Bodybuilders mentionned above died either from heart attack or from kidney insufficiency. Those diseases who usually concern aged persons in poor health condition are ironically common in the community of Bodybuilding, consequences of STEROIDS or DIURETICS use. Actually, doping exists in all sport but the situation of bodybuilding is very special. In other sports, strong antidoping policies deter competitors from drugs use. Therefore doping concerns a minority of top professional athletes who have an advised supervisory medic staff to get round the tests. Thus, drugs are usually provided by the teams sport medic, which give a certain monitoring and reduce the risks. In Bodybuilding, drug tests are absents of most of the competitions including some who claim to be Natural and team monitoring rarely exists. Athletes who trained and diet by their own are implicitly encouraged to use any kind of enhancers without any control to build one of those freaky physiques their role models showcase in magazines. And this is all the more easy that illegal drugs are available on the internet and sometime distributed in the gyms even possibly by one of those role models. Althought accidents occur in Boxing, American Football Soccer, Cycling etc.. the rate is much lower. A study of US health administration revealed that 90% of athletes hospitalized for kidney insufficiency due to steroids use were Bodybuilders most of whom were anonymous amateurs…. EGOISTIC IDOLS Flex Wheeler, Kevin Levrone, Don Long, Paul Dillett Bodybuilding legends 10 years ago are unrecognazable. They could escape the worst but one of the most pernicious health disease Chronicle Renal Insufficiency forced them to retire from the scene. Paul Dillett 10 years ago Paul Dillett today Unfortunately, none of them had the push to publicly campaign against steroids and diuretics, while this could have a real impact and save many from permanent disability or death.. Kevin Levrone Today Kevin Levrone 10 years ago Flex Wheeler after a kidney transplant continue to deny he used steroids, asserting that his renal insufficiency was hereditary. He is even trying a pathetic comeback as a natural bodybuilder…obviously blown by Synthol. Flex Wheeler today Flex Wheeler 10 years ago The Bodybuilding Industry has quickly replaced the images of its fallen soldiers. Now we talk about Phil Heath, Jay Cutler, Kai Greene, Lionel Beyeke… Wait and see what will happen next. BE PROUD OF YOU NOT OF YOUR VIAL Beside the risk you take by using drugs, there is the ideal of sport. Which is the challenge to excel and surpass yourself . This is the ethical goal that once reached will provide you the REAL PRIDE. PRIDE is not APPEARANCE for others PRIDE IS INSIDE….by Anoma Yao
